Dropping a nap can be tricky! Your baby’s sleep is changing, you’re up more than you’re used to… The whole house is exhausted. But why? It might be time to drop a nap! And how are you supposed to do that? If you’ve never learned, that question can feel overwhelming. Not to mention, dropping a nap can throw off your whole schedule (you know, that baby schedule you just finally got used to!). In this video, Joan Becker Friedman, certified pediatric sleep consultant, goes over nap transitions in less than 3 minutes.
The general idea- slowly shorten the earliest nap of the day. This enables that later nap to provide a bridge to bedtime. You can push the nap later, or trim 15 minutes off day-by-day until your baby no longer needs that nap.
While we wish we could say dropping a nap is quick and easy, it is a bit of a process! That said, we know you and your baby will figure this out together. You and your fellow caregivers have this handled! And if you need support- reference this video about dropping a nap to help, or get in touch about baby sleep consulting services designed to help your family sleep better! You deserve it.
